Work Day Held on Saturday February 24th

On Saturday February 24, 2007 We enjoyed an exhausting, but truly rewarding work day at the Niederman/Sizer Field on Sperry Road at the bottom of Tuttle Road. The 25 degree weather was actually perfect for working in with the fringe benefit of no ticks! Trails Chairman Von Bair, Chris Silvestri, Jim Murphy, Don Parrot, Ray Martino, and the whole Francois clan participated. Our trail chairman was assuming a difficult day or two of hand work clearing saplings under one inch in size and carrying them to the bottom of the field. But Jacque Francois was there with his chain saw, Ray with his tractor equipped with bush hog, and Don with the promise of a chipper. So we cut saplings up to three inches, and Ray cleared bunches of green briar and roses. Don showed up again on Sunday and donated the use of a chipper from Connecticut Arborists, which kept him, Jim, Jacque and Von busy feeding it. After the rest of us left, Jacque stayed and worked on the remaining thorny stuff with his industrial grade weed whacker; he was enjoying himself so much that he may still be there.
Drive by the field for a look; it is really awesome!
Many thanks to the participants!
